Ellie (MI) Rat Terrier Adult Female in Lansing, Michigan

My story
'It's all muscle!' exclaimed Ellie when her foster mom suggested that the 22-lb. rat terrier lose a smidge in her torso. We think 4-year-old Ellie, with or without the extra pound, is beautiful, with her chocolate and tan markings and deep honey-colored eyes. She's also intelligent and eager to please. Both food and praise motivated, Ellie enjoys learning new things, and she already knows basic commands and is house-trained and crate trained.   Ellie gets along with the small dogs and mellow cat in her foster home. (She was also friendly with larger dogs in her former home.) However, Ellie is a bit nervous when meeting new people and needs time to warm up and offer her trust. She is extremely hand shy and responds best to gentle movement and a calm tone of voice. This is understandable since in her former home, she lived with a toddler--the exact size of human NOT known for gentleness or calmness--and was given up when she snapped at the child. Ellie's new home MUST be terrier savvy, with older or no children and adults who will provide for the comfort and safety of both the dog and any kids.    Ellie loves to play and run off leash in the fenced yard. She also enjoys walks on leash as well as belly rubs and cuddles. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night and when left alone at home, but she would be happy sleeping in bed with her humans too. Ellie travels well by car but isn't fond of trips to the vet. Nevertheless, if handled gently, she's willing to tolerate them with the grace befitting such a lovely lady.
